After a successful effort last fall that involved many in the community, organizers of an effort to improve the exterior of an old Thiensville farmhouse have turned their sights toward a similar project inside the home.
Last summer and fall a group of men and women comprised largely of Thiensville residents volunteered and led an effort to re-roof and re-paint the exterior of an old farmhouse in Thiensville for the two inhabitants, 94 year old Meta who was born in the home and has lived there continuously since 1921, and her daughter and caregiver Mary. The home is located on the NW corner of Freistadt Road and Park Crest in Thiensville. The group collected over $25,000 in cash and in-kind contributions to fund and carry out the project last year and have their sights set this summer on updating and improving the safety of the interior of the home. They are calling on volunteers to assist first in helping to remove, sort, and clean the family’s possessions in a respectful and dignified manner on Friday June 12 and Saturday June 13. Other volunteers will be needed June 13 through June 20 to assist in preparing the first floor interior of the home to receive new flooring, cabinets, counter, bath and kitchen fixtures, and new paint on the walls, ceilings, and trim. Any amount of time, talent, or treasure you can offer is appreciated; many hands make light work! Please phone either John Rosing (262-242-3631) or Jerry Schmitz (414-581-3081) to explore how your time and talent capabilities and interests match with our needs and arrange a specific day, time, and task you will be scheduled for. If you are unable to help out in person cash or check contributions may be made at any BMO Harris Bank location by specifying a deposit to the “Hoerchner Farmhouse Fund.” Thank you!
