Household Hazardous Waste

Overview


Generally, waste is considered hazardous if it is ignitable (i.e. burns readily), corrosive, or reactive (e.g. explosive).  Waste may also be considered hazardous if it contains certain toxic chemicals.

Hazardous waste materials are not permitted at the Village Yard Waste facility. Ozaukee County has one permanent household hazardous waste collection site for residents.

Most hazardous products are labeled with key words to identify them.

  • Caution
  • Combustible
  • Corrosive
  • Danger
  • Flammable
  • Poison
  • Warning

Typical household hazardous wastes include some household cleansers & chemicals as well as:

  • Gasoline
  • Herbicides
  • Insecticides
  • Oil-based paints
  • Pesticides
  • Solvents
  • Stains
  • Strippers
  • Thinners
