Residents encouraged to pay
sewer bill by mail or by using
drop box at Village Hall

Thiensville's first-quarter sewer bills were mailed late last week. Residential sewer customers now are receiving their bill on a full-size sheet of paper, rather than as the traditional postcard.

Due to the current coronavirus outbreak, we encourage you to either pay your bill by mail or to pay your bill by attaching your check to the bottom portion of paper bill (or the stub from the postcard) in our drop box, which is just to the left at the front door of Village Hall.

If you have questions, please call Village Hall at (262) 242-3720.

Dr. Gary Lewis
will speak about coronavirus
in video to be posted online

Do you have questions related to coronavirus? Send your questions to Dr. Gary Lewis, M.D., at sagoma.lewis@gmail.com. Dr. Lewis has been the medical officer for the North Shore Health Department since 1994. He has volunteered to educate Thiensville residents on the COVID-19 virus.

In a video that will be posted online next week, Dr. Lewis will answer your questions and explain the facts and impact of the virus. Watch Village Voice for a link to the video.

Many thanks for Dr. Lewis of Thiensville Family Health Care and Michael Klug of Studio 3xd for donating their time, knowledge and talents.

This video will replace Dr. Lewis' scheduled presentation as part of the Wednesday Talks series.

The monthly series of talks continues into June. Wednesday Talks are free and open to the public. Thiensville Lifestyle Coalition is a committee of the Thiensville Business Association. More information on the full lineup of Wednesday Talks topics is available here.

U.S. Census logo

Mailing from U.S. Census
will arrive by mail this month

In mid-March, homes across the country will begin receiving invitations to complete the 2020 Census.

Households should receive official Census Bureau mail prior to March 20. It will provide detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail.

Every 10 years, the United States conducts its Census, an official count of every person in the nation.

It is very important that every resident of the Village gets counted because a variety of funding formulas are tied to population. The districts of elected representatives for local and state offices, as well as Congress, are drawn based on the Census.

For a more-detailed overview, check out Census 101 and the Census Invites Everyone.

Backyard shed

Sheds, other structures
require Village approval

With spring just around the corner, residents may be thinking about adding an outdoor shed to store garden equipment, tools and other items. Sheds and other accessory structures must be approved by the Village's Plan Commission. The Historic Preservation Commission also must review the plans if the property is in Thiensville's Historic District. If approved, a building permit must be obtained.

Village Hall staff is happy to help you through the required steps. Plans that show where the shed will be placed, its size and what it will look like must be submitted at least two weeks prior to a meeting of the Plan Commission, which meets the first Tuesday of each month.

If Historic Preservation Commission review and approval is required, consideration of the Certificate of Appropriateness must occur first. The Historic Preservation Commission meets the second Wednesday of the month.

Details of the requirements for an accessory structure permit are available on the Village's website.

Fences, decks and driveway additions also require village review.

Please stop by Village Hall or call (262) 242-3720 with questions. We're here to help!
