Thiensville voters
turn out at the polls

More than 27 percent of the registered voters in Thiensville turned out to vote last Tuesday, February 18, in the primary election that narrowed a field of three candidates for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court to two. The turnout in the Village was more than the countywide 24.6 percent.

You can view how Thiensville voted -- and every other community in Ozaukee County -- at this website.

Last week's spring primary was the first of four elections that will take place this year. An election on April 7 will include two seats on the Thiensville Village Board, the presidential primary, the general election for Wisconsin Supreme Court and other offices. An August 11 partisan primary will narrow the fields for races that may include member of Congress, state representative and Ozaukee County District Attorney. Voters in the November 3 general election will select president of the United States, their member of Congress and state representative.

Backyard shed

Sheds, other structures
require Village approval

With spring just around the corner, residents may be thinking about adding an outdoor shed to store garden equipment, tools and other items. Sheds and other accessory structures must be approved by the Village's Plan Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission if the property is in Thiensville's Historic District. If approved, a building permit must be obtained.

Village Hall staff is happy to help you through the required steps. Plans that show where the shed will be placed, its size and what it will look like must be submitted at least two weeks prior to a meeting of the Plan Commission, which meets the first Tuesday of each month.

If Historic Preservation Commission review and approval is required, consideration of the Certificate of Appropriateness must occur first. The Historic Preservation Commission meets the second Wednesday of the month.

Details of the requirements for an accessory structure permit are available on the Village's website.

Fences, decks and driveway additions also require village review.

Please stop by Village Hall or call (262) 242-3720 with questions. We're here to help!

U.S. Census logo

Make sure you get counted
by the U.S. Census

Every 10 years, the United States conducts its Census, an official count of every person in the nation.

It is very important that every resident of the Village gets counted because a variety of funding formulas are tied to population. The districts of elected representatives for local and state offices, as well as Congress, are drawn based on the Census.

Please look for an invitation in the mail to participate in the Census between March 12 and March 20. You may be given the option to respond online. You also will be provided with options for a paper questionnaire or a reply by telephone. Census takers will then go door-to-door in June and July to count people who have not responded.

For a more-detailed overview, check out Census 101 and the Census Invites Everyone.
