[ARCHIVED] U.S. Census Resumes Field Operations

The current Census operations do not require interaction between households and a Census Bureau employee. Census Bureau staff are receiving safety training to observe social distancing protocols.

Households that receive the 2020 Census invitation packets are strongly encouraged to respond promptly to the 2020 Census using the Census ID included in the questionnaire packet.

Additional information about the current status of U.S. Census Bureau operations is available here.

The Census is the mandatory counting of people and gathering of information that is to take place every ten years as mandated under Article 1, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution.  This count helps determine things such as how many seats in Congress each state receives and how billions of dollars in federal funding gets appropriated.  Click here to see 50 other ways this data collected is used.
